ARTIST STATEMENT
Trained as an engineer, I normally face any task using the analytical
side of my brain. The right side, more spatial and creative, provides
me with the elements to think outside the box. This combination allows
me to work on a variety of media, and understand and take advantage of
the physical properties and capabilities of the materials. I have used
in my art wood, glass, metal, clay, cement, acrylics, watercolors and
oils.
Glass has an intrinsic beauty; color and transparency play
intensely when subject to light sources, be they natural or artificial.
I mainly use iridescent glass to design and build my glass art pieces.
Though fragile, glass is strong enough to be used as serving pieces; I
design plates, serving trays, and a variety of serving elements....and I
always say “ food taste better on these plates” I also design
abstract
“paintings” in glass for display.
In contrast, metal is cold and hard. Bending, welding and pounding
metal allows a steel plate, bar or other shapes a fluidity you would not
think it is possible....The possibilities are unlimited. I also use
clay and cement for abstract and figurative sculptures.
I
find that there is an important message that the title of an art piece
can convey to the observer and I try to do so in my designs.
I
have complemented the glass and sculptural work with some two
dimensional art by lately focusing on acrylic medium
