ARTIST STATEMENT
Much of my inspiration as an artist comes from the harsh, yet tranquil
landscape that surrounded me as a child growing up in New Mexico. I am
particularly drawn to the elements that not only survive, but actually
thrive in that landscape. And this tranquility has instilled in me a
deep sense of reverence for nature. This dynamic has inspired many of my
sculptural pieces in which I reflect this reverence by using materials
found in nature—bits of bark, roots, branches, moss, and other “gifts”.
My most recent muse has been creating sculptures from what is considered society's trash. I spend much time combing the ground, junk
bins, and stores for “great finds” and I have even been willing to pay
for these treasures. I see the beauty in these castoffs, perhaps,
because I too am in the aging process.
